Sanibel: Gulf Island Paradise

There is so much to see and do on Sanibel Island; the only problem you will have is fitting in everything you want to do during your vacation time. Sanibel Island condos are great bases for all the fun, activities, sand and surf that is Sanibel Island. Sanibel is full of things to do but also has the relaxed island vibe, so your vacation can be anything you desire it to be. For Land Lovers SanibelIslandcondos.jpgWith miles of beaches and even more miles of bike paths, people who enjoy soaking up the sun will find it along every bend. There are plenty of activities for nature lovers, from bird watching to nature and historical walks. If bicycling is not your cup of tea, there are mopeds and Segways available for rent on the island. Science and nature centers are available all over the island, so you are close to all the best Sanibel vacation rentals. You should not miss the newly restored buildings of the Edison and Ford Winter Estates for a peak at how these early millionaires lived in the early Twentieth Century, and the 20 acres of historic landscaping around the property. Four different golf and tennis resorts are located on the island, so you are sure to get a good tee time, and a great view no matter which course you play. There are also golfing and tennis lessons available for every level player, and all ages. Health and fitness spas around the island offer spa treatments galore and yoga classes at sunrise. What could be more Zen? For Beach and Water Lovers bestSanibelvacationrentals.jpgMillions of people come to Sanibel Island each year for the sand and overabundance of shells. Sanibel Island is one of the few barrier islands in the world that has an east-west orientation. Sanibel’s pristine beaches are the direct result of deliberate rules to keep them just that way. No open fires, no unleashed dogs, and no collecting live shells; these rules were put in place in the 70’s to aggressively protect Sanibel’s nature state to the greatest extent possible. Each of the public beach areas has basic restrooms, picnic facilities, showers, and handicap parking. What you will not see on Sanibel beaches is vendors renting jet skis and offering parasailing. For those pursuits, you will have to head over to sister island Captiva. However, if you are interested in renting a kayak or canoe, you can find one of those on Sanibel Island. Seventy percent of the island today is protected conservation land, and even within developed areas; you will not find common chains or franchises. There are no traffic lights or streetlights allowed either, but white-gloved police officers direct traffic when necessary. Even on Periwinkle Way, you will see large green spaces and a lack of what is typical, even in vacation areas. This island is one of the last remaining examples of the paradise that was Old Florida, and that is why it was chosen Number One destination worldwide by Frommer’s.
